The Album

In 2007 I collaborated with Einstellung – an instrumental rock band who meld powerful Black Sabbath-esque riffs with My Bloody Valentine style shoe gaze over a driving repetitive beat reminiscent of krautrock bands such as Neu!  I love the hypnotic and rhythmic feel to their music and the way it gradually builds towards powerful climatic moments – all elements which I strive to bring into my own music making.

Together with a small string section we performed a concert called ‘Das Land Ohne Musik’ in which Einstellung forewent their usual thunderous electric guitar sound and played acoustic, transforming their post-rock epics into neo-classical meditations.

The Concert

The concert was really well received, being described by the Birmingham Post as ‘exercise in gently building atmospherics … an oddly transcendent evening” and as “Beautiful, hypnotic, mesmerising soundscapes that drew the audience into a trance” by the Birmingham Mail.

Now, the great news is that only 11 short years later, Einstellung have released a live album of the concert and it sounds wonderful.  Its lovely to be reminded of  how well we blended to create some really special music. There is a limited edition CD available which already has only a few copies left, or high quality downloads, both available from Einstellung’s Bandcamp page.
