July 18: Reginald D Hunter and Jason Cook

Reg Hunter

Reginald D Hunter – No Country for Grown Men. Reg started his comedy career in Birmingham where he lived and gigged for some years after arriving in the country to study acting at RADA. Incredibly natural onstage and a deeply thoughtful and engaging presence, he is now one of the most successful acts to appear regularly at Edinburgh where he consistently sells out large venues and recently acquired the Writers’ Guild Award for Comedy to complement his collection of three nominations for the Perrier. Whilst Reg still regularly demonstrates an almost unparalleled ability to command an audience in the rowdiest of comedy clubs, its perhaps here in a theatre setting where his philosophical insight, and calm, measured and devastatingly funny comedy is best appreciated .

Jason Cook - 2008

Jason Cook – Joy. Jason cut his comedy teeth in the lively rough and tumble of the comedy clubs of Northern England. Last year, his debut Edinburgh show “My Confessions” was a major hit, earning a raft of five star reviews and a nomination for Best Newcomer before going on to pick up “Best International Show” at the New Zealand Comedy Festival and in the process making room after room of grown men and women laugh consistently for a full hour and very often shed tears in the remarkable final ten minutes. This year Jason brings “Joy”. A show about joy, about how it is all around us, we just have to know how to look for it. And of course, there is a twist at the end. “I was writing the show and it was nearly finished, then something happened which made me re-evaluate everything the show and ultimately the meaning of the word ‘Joy’ is all about”. Jason once again puts his own life, even the bad bits, under the microscope with one guarantee: total honesty.
“a genuinely life-affirming hour.”
