Surely the best comic ever to come out of Birmingham (ok Solihull) is performing two shows at Birmingham’s Old Joint Stock Theatre on Wednesday 20th (the early show is already sold out but tickets are available for late one if youre quick – 0121 200 0946).
Lee’s laconic delivery and brilliant mind have made him a favourite of mine for some while now and his show “90’s comedian” (in part a response to the hassle he’d received from Christian fundamenalists in the wake of his Jerry Springer the Opera) was one of the best pieces of comedy Ive ever seen and is available on DVD I believe).
This show sees a cooler Lee, amused by receiving the accolade “41st Best Stand Up Ever” in a Channel Four poll, and inspired to offer his searing and relentlessly amusing take on the never ending delight that is public opinion.
Lee has refined the art of his comedy to a level few others can reasonably hope to aspire to – each phrase carefully judged and delivered in a way that advances the monlogue in a slightly new direction whilst building gradually and insistently.
Do catch this one if you can.
