I used to think that outgoing people had more fulfilling interpersonal contact than quieter ones, but I no longer feel thats necesarily the case – the loud person in the middle of the party might be just as lonely and confused as the quieter person at its fringes. Maybe even more so. Both have developed personas which are partly designed to act as barriers to the potential pain of open human interaction.

yeah. the person at the fringe will also see more of the overall picture than at the centre of the action …
“potential pain” what about the limitless joys of open human interaction Rich?
thanks for the comments. I think theres a lot to be said for quiet observation, tho you wouldnt want to advis anyone against plunging into the fray either.
So far as being loud/quiet or open/closed is concerned, I think I will probably always be on the quiter end of the spectrum, but I hope to be as open as possible.
Look at someone like Reg Hunter in a room and he wont necessarily be making the most noise, but he is likely to be at the center of the action none the less.
