I have two very different experiences whilst attempting to learn something. If its something that I dont have a particular interest or feel for, it can be like trying to construct a ramshackle building on swampy ground. I can bash something rough together but at any time it feels like it might drown and be lost forever in the shfting sands.
But if its something I have a genuine interest in then that quagmire becomes a sponge – absorbing understanding quite easily – if I can let it be for long enough.
