Following a terrific run at the 2014 Adelaide Fringe playing to full houses and receiving a wonderful review, Im very excited to be bringing my show Classically Chilled Piano to the Edinburgh Fringe in 2015 from Tues 25th to Sat 29th.
I’ve once again got a lovely venue, theSpace @ Surgeons Hall, and I’ll be performing the same set that went down so well before – featuring three of my newer pieces, a suite of highlights from my debut album Valentine Court, three of the pieces that made Ludovico Einaudi the most famous pianist and composer in the world today and last, but hopefully not least, a live improvisation.
Ive started practicing for the shows and am really enjoying revisiting some of these pieces, in fact I got a strong case of the shivers earlier today playing my mini-epic Cello Song (I just love the way it builds and builds). The only aspect of the show I cant practice for of course, is the improvisation, in fact I’ve decided to approach it by not doing any other improvising between now and the first show on Tues Aug 25th, so hopefully whatever comes to pass then, will be something altogether new and special.
As before, I’ll be recording the improvisation and giving away a copy to the members of the audience. This mark’s the release last year of In The Moment, my album of recorded improvisations.
I certainly dont want to jinx anything, but in case you can make the show, here’s an excerpt from a review of the Adelaide run from Fringe Review:
“Rich Batsford captivates the room within a few minutes of playing … his focus is unwavered becoming one with the piano … His passion is infectious, enchanting the audience. The pieces speak strongly of love, gladness, reverence and tranquillity”.
