I’ve just spent a bit of time setting myself up with a musician page on Facebook.
It worked pretty well – the music player isnt as sophisticated as some, but does the job. Lyndall and I have invited all our facebook friends to become fans, and hopefully some of those will go on to invite their friends and so spread the word.
Meanwhile at least its there for people to find.
And of course one of the big advantages that facebook has over myspace is the events facility and also that people dont tend to “blanket add” people to their pages, so you have the chance to genuinely communicate with people that have an interest in your music. We hope!
If you havent already – please visit my page and sign up as a fan.
thanks

[…] Rich Batsford on setting up a musician page on Facebook Kinda like a MySpace profile only, y’know, saner. (tags: facebook music richbatsford) […]
Hey there!
I was looking for information on setting up a facebook music page and I got your site. Very nice playing and lovely piece! I was a music major in college and have my masters in Vocal Performance so I love hearing good stuff. My son, Seth Rodden, has a myspace page but he and Tris, his brother, have found that it is not very user-friendly. Do you think facebook is easier? Seth has to have one for a music business class at his college. He is going to leave what he has on myspace there. They just did it a couple of weeks ago, but then maybe set up a page like you did too.
Thanks!!
Linda Rodden
Hi Linda
thanks very much for your message – great to hear you like the music.
yes i would say that Facebook is more “user friendly” than myspace, but its still very much worth being on myspace as well, simply because its so popular and such an easy way for people to be able to track down and listen to music.
good luck!
Rich
